Dr. Ronald Hackney, Director of the Australian and New Zealand International Scientific Drilling Consortium (ANZIC), visited NCPOR on 10 November 2025 and delivered an insightful talk titled “Opportunities for International Scientific Drilling in and around Antarctica with a View to IPY 2032–33.” His talk highlighted nearly six decades of international scientific drilling that have deepened understanding of climate change, natural hazards, and ecosystems. Dr. Hackney also discussed ongoing collaborations under ICDP and IODP, and emerging opportunities for Antarctic drilling using advanced seabed technologies and research vessels for the upcoming International Polar Year 2032–33.
