INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

A campus LAN (Local Area Network) has been established at NCAOR providing seamless connectivity to over 200 computers in the Campus. The network utilizes a mixture of optical fibre, UTP cables, Wi-Fi and switches. Internet access is provided through the National Knowledge Network internet connectivity at a speed of 100 Mbps/1Gbps. ICTD has well established and is actively maintaining various servers namely Mail, Web, Proxy, Firewall, FTP, DHCP, Anti-virus.

 

Some of the other significant accomplishments at the ICT Division of NCAOR are as below:

 

Establishment of a High Definition Tele-Presence Conference System:

A High Definition Tele-Presence (TPX) Room has been established at NCAOR (under the NKN project) facilitating high-resolution face-to-face communication with MoES and all its outlying offices.

Description

Development of NCAOR intranet site (http:// 172.27.10.90:10000/ ncaorIntranet) displaying the latest official circulars, notices, announcements etc. Several user-friendly interfaces also provided on the site for lodging PC/Printer-related complaints, telephone directory, pay-slip of all staff, commonly used forms, NCAOR Virtual Tour, Live Temperature at Maitri etc. Four students from BITS-Pilani underwent their summer training with the ICTD Group as a part of the BITS Practice School, and were involved in the development of the intranet.

Data Archival for AWS Data from Maitri & Sagar Kanya

Automation script developed to get the AWS Data from Maitri as well as Sagar Kanya on an hourly basis into our local Data Archival Server and data are stored in systematic approach.

 

Upgradation of Symantec End Point Total Security 11.0.7 on NCAOR LAN to protect its networks

 

Enhancement of NCAOR Website in bi-lingual

 

Action initiated to enhance the existing NCAOR Website, which will include knowledge based (dynamic) information and enhanced look and feel such as Rich Internet Applications (RIA) to the potential clients visiting the website and will highlight the services required by them. The enhanced website will also provide easy access for the user to the review the range of services available and the various types of work that the organisation performs and its Data Centres (National Antarctic Data Centre, Polar Museum and Marine Geophysical). It will also provide the information in bilingual to the clients.

 

Upgradation of NCAOR LAN with higher capacity of bandwidth

 

Migration to improve the existing infrastructure, with new servers, layer3 managed switches & network peripherals to improve of the quality of service and also multilayered firewall, anti-spam engine solutions are planned to enhance the overall network security at the Centre.
