Polar precipitation and related atmospheric studies

Key objectives

  1. Observation of clouds and precipitation at the Maitri station on a long-term basis
  2. study the variability in precipitation in different time scales
  3. study the distribution of clouds and precipitation associated with mesoscale systems
  4. simulation of precipitation using a regional atmospheric model
  5.  investigate the causes of variations in precipitation using the observations and the model.
  6. Investigate physical processes in the polar atmosphere and the interactions between atmosphere, sea ice and ocean.
  7. Improve understanding of the physical, chemical, and dynamical processes affecting the polar atmosphere including the Southern Ocean region.
  8. Study the variability of the polar climate and its teleconnections to the rest of the globe with special emphasis to the Indian region.
