The 52nd Annual Convention of Indian Geophysical Union (IGU) held at NCAOR, Vasco da Gama


The National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR) hosted the 52nd Annual Convention of Indian Geophysical Union (IGU) at its campus during Nov 3-5, 2015. More than 300 scientists/delegates and young students from various parts of the country took part in three day long deliberations. The theme of this year’s convention was NEAR SURFACE EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCES. The convention was inaugurated on 3rd Nov 2015 at NCAOR auditorium. Mr. A K Dwidei, Director (exploration), ONGC limited was the chief guest during the inaugural function. Dr. Shailesh Nayak, former Secretary, MoES and President of IGU presided over the function and Dr. S W A Naqvi was the Guest of Honour. Dr. M Ravichandran, Director, NCAOR welcomed delegates at the opening ceremony. The convention concluded on 5th Nov 2015.

 

The IGU, one of the most reputed geosciences societies in India, was established in 1964 with its Head Quarter at NGRI, Hyderabad It is mandated to create a platform for dissemination of knowledge through close interaction and sharing scientific thoughts/views among scientists and young researchers. IGU has more than 900 members as on date.
