Mr.  M. Javed Beg has assumed charge as Director, NCPOR, Goa on 20 October 2021. He is a geologist by training and holds an MBA degree in e-Business & Information Technology from Maastricht School of Management, The Netherlands. He obtained his Master’s degree in Geology from Aligarh Muslim University. He worked in Geological Survey of Inda (1987 to 2007) and has been with National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, Ministry of Earth Sciences since 2007.

While at NCPOR, Mr. Javed Beg has been the group head for Antarctic Operations and Infrastructure. He specialises in strategic planning, business process reengineering and has contributed significantly to Indian Antarctic Program by organizing logistic operations, development of infrastructure facilities at Indian Research Stations for scientific research including satellite-based communication link between Indian Station in Antarctica and India mainland providing 24x7 connectivity enabling real time data transfer and video streaming.  He was the Expedition Leader of the 2nd Task Force for selection of the site for the third Indian Research Station in Antarctica and Project Director for design and construction of Bharati Station in Antarctica which was commission on 18 March 2012.

While with Geological Survey of India he has extensively worked on geology, geomorphology in J&K Himalayas and in Antarctica and has undertaken geological, geomorphological and glaciological studies including those on melt water lakes of Schirmacher Oasis, Wohlthat Mountains in central Dronning Maud Land region and Larsemann Hills in Prydz Bay. 

 

He has organised fifteen Indian Expeditions to Antarctica and has participated in ten expeditions in different capacities including the maiden Indian Expedition to South Pole in 2010. Recipient of National Mineral Award (now known as National Geoscience Awards) 2004 and NFP fellowship (Netherlands Fellowship Programme) for 2000-01, he is member to various national and international forums and was the Vice Chair of Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP) from 2016-19.
