A high-level delegation from the Emirates Polar Program (EPP), UAE-Mr. Wassim Said (Advisor, International Affairs), Ms. Loulia Mohamad AlKhatib (Researcher, International Affairs), Prof. Samuel Mao, and Dr. Aisha Al Suwaidi (Khalifa University, Polar Research Centre)-visited the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa. They were welcomed by Dr. Thamban Meloth, Director, NCPOR, who highlighted India’s major polar and ocean programs and NCPOR’s leadership in their execution. Dr. Rahul Mohan (Group Director, Polar Sciences) presented the Indian Antarctic Program’s scientific themes and initiatives, Dr. Shailendra Saini (Antarctic Operations) discussed logistics and infrastructure, and Dr. Manish Tiwari (Arctic Operations) outlined the Indian Arctic Program. Mr. Wassim Said emphasized the importance of collaboration, proposing joint use of the UAE’s deep-sea research vessel, research in Greenland, and support for Maitri II as a sub-station-level observatory. Dr. Aisha Al Suwaidi shared the EPP’s vision, mission, and new research initiatives. Both teams explored areas of cooperation, including academic exchanges, capacity building, and joint expeditions. The visit included a tour of NCPOR’s labs and an immersive virtual Antarctica experience.
