Facilities in Paleoclimate studies

Facilities present at the Marine Stable Isotope Lab (MASTIL)

1. Gas Source – Dual Inlet – Stable Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (IRMS): used primarily to measure oxygen (δ18O) and carbon (δ13C) isotopic composition of calcitic samples from marine realms along with oxygen (δ18O) and hydrogen (δD) isotopic composition of seawater.
2. Elemental Analyzer (EA) coupled to the IRMS: used to determine the carbon (δ13C) & nitrogen (δ15N) isotopic ratio of organic matter.
